    Sussex Spaniel Puppies

The Sussex spaniel was developed in Sussex, Southern England. The breed has a low and compact appearance and closely resembles the Clumber spaniel. The breed may be a bit slow paced but has a clownish and energetic temperament which makes them ideal for dog shows as well as family pets. The dog was first bred in 1795 and was used in hunting conditions. They almost became extinct during the Second World War. Today, the breed is more common in the United States than in any other country in the world. Generally speaking, the Sussex spaniel puppy San Diego is a great breed to bring home as a pet and here is why.

The San Diego Sussex spaniel puppies grow into strong, massive dogs that have a body that is longer than it is tall. Their top-line is level. The skull is wide and broad and is moderately heavy, long and with a full stop. The muzzle has a square profile and measures about 3 inches in length. The nose is liver in color. The eyes are large and hazel. The ears are large and low set and hang close to the head. The neck is slightly arched.

The Sussex spaniel puppies San Diego have a deep chest that is well developed. Their legs are very short. The tail is customarily docked by 5 to 7 inches. The coat of the dog breed is flat or moderately wavy. It has feathering on the legs, neck, feet and tail. The main coat color is rich golden liver.

When given sufficient exercises, the San Diego Sussex spaniel puppies will be calm and stable when indoors. They are not as outgoing as other spaniels. They work enthusiastically and will bark continuously when hunting out in the field. They move with a characteristic swinging gait. The breed adapts perfectly to hunting and retrieving small game. When hunting, it will at times bay.

Other than working, the Sussex spaniel puppy San Diego makes a great companion dog. It loves everyone and it is very charming, loyal and gentle. The dog will get along perfectly with cats and children. With sufficient socialization and with a strong pack leader, the breed will get along fine with other dogs. It requires firm leadership as well as patient training. You need to be prepared to be a strong minded pack leader if you are considering this dog.

The San Diego Sussex spaniel puppies are prone to ear infections. Minor concerns include intervertebral disc syndrome, heart murmur, otitis exerna and enlarged heart. They also gain weight easily.

When caring for the San Diego Sussex spaniel puppy, you should start by keeping their ears clean so as to avoid infections. You should also refrain from overfeeding them.
