    Papillon puppies

The Papillon is also referred to as the Continental Toy Spaniel. This is one of the oldest toy spaniels and it derives its name from its characteristic butterfly-like appearance. (Papillo in French refers to a Butterfly). It is identified mainly for its fringed long hairs on its ears. The San Diego Papillon puppies are great to have as family dogs. They are small in size and pretty attractive in appearance.

    Description

The best way to identify the Papillon puppy San Diego is to look for its butterfly appearance on the head. It has a small and slightly rounded head between its ears. It has a well-defined stop. The muzzle is short and thin tapering towards the nose. The dog has dark medium sized eyes with black rims. The ears are large and may be dropped or erect. The ears have rounded tips. The teeth make a level bite. The tail is long and high set and carried over the dog’s body. The tail is covered in long fine hair. The dewclaws may be removed. The Papillon puppies San Diego have a single coat that has straight and long hairs. The coat colors include white with patches of any other color. There is a mask of color, other than white, which covers the ears and eyes from the back to the front.

    Temperament

The San Diego Papillon puppies are friendly and very intelligent dogs. They are tougher than they appear. They love outdoor exercises and are pretty playful, amusing, lively and animated. In general, these are charming small dogs. They are mainly considered as family dogs because of their affection, gentleness, obedience as well as pride. This is among the few dogs that love cuddling. They are obedient, sturdy and never yappers. They are also great with cats when socialized and also make it hard to housebreak. Considering their intelligence, they are pretty easy to train.

All in all, it is important to note that this dog breed needs a strong pack leader. If the master is weak, the dog will grow a brain of its own and may become possessive and believe itself to be the pack leader. It is also prone to the small dog syndrome which causes it to believe that it owns the house. This condition leads to many behavioral problems most of which are difficult to deal away with. The dog is also prone to guarding, separation anxiety, snapping, biting, obsessive barking and aggression. It needs to be trained and socialized sufficiently to avoid these conditions.

    Health

The Papillon puppies San Diego are prone to patella in its hind legs, fontanel (similar to the soft spot of a baby) and may be allergic to anesthesia.

    Care

The dog needs sufficient training and socialization. You need to give him daily long and brisk walks. The coat needs daily brushing and combing. You should only bathe when absolutely necessary. The dog is an average shedder.
