Neapolitan Mastiff Puppies
The Neapolitan Mastiff is also widely known as the Italian Mastiff. It is an ancient large sized dog breed. This dog is widely considered as a defender or a guard dog. It makes a great guard in the family and in protecting property. Most people consider it as a watchdog because of its fearsome appearance and protective instincts which make it hard to housebreak. Even so, the Neapolitan Mastiff puppy San Diego is not a dog breed for anyone.
Description
The Neapolitan Mastiff puppies San Diego are generally serious and very powerful dogs. They have a massive body with abundant hanging wrinkles and folds on its head. The dog has large dewlap. The head is wide and flat and it is larger when compared to the body. The muzzle is as long as it is wide and has a defined stop. The eyes are deep-set and are usually covered by drooping eyelids.
When buying the San Diego Neapolitan Mastiff puppies, you need to understand that they begin life with blue eyes. The eyes darken with time. The ears are either natural or cropped. The tail is normally carried straight up and is somewhat curved over the dog’s back. The feet are large with toes that are well arched. The dense coat is usually blue, gray, chocolate, tawny, black or mahogany in color. It may also be brindle with some markings of white. A little white on the toes and chest is permitted but there should be no white color on the dog’s face. The rarest of breeds is the chocolate coated ones.
Temperament
In appearance, the San Diego Neapolitan Mastiff puppies are intimidating. They are, however, affectionate, peaceful, loving and calm. It is their temperament that makes them ideal as family dogs. They love human company. They are keen to the commands of their master and will only bark when necessary. They are great with kids and will get along well with the non-canine pets.
All in all, it is important to note that in hot weather, this dog breed will drool heavily. They should not be left in the sun for long. They will also need socialization and obedience training. What is more is that they will need a natural pack leader else they will develop undesirable traits. Engage them in pack walks where they walk beside or behind you and never in front.
Health
The Neapolitan Mastiff puppies San Diego are prone to hip dysplasia, cheery eye, bloat and pano-ostiosis which leads to joint pains as the puppy grows. Birth is usually via caesarian section.
Care
The Neapolitan Mastiff puppy San Diego is an energetic dog and will need two daily long walks to shed its excess energy. The short haired coat is easy to groom. It needs brushing to remove dead hairs. With sufficient exercises, this dog breed will do okay in the apartment life.
