MemberMastiff Puppies
When speaking about a Mastiff, more often than not, the breed in mind is the English Mastiff. There have been many breeds under the Mastiff name which include the Alpine Mastiff, Cuban Mastiff, Spanish Mastiff and then some. Some of this have long become extinct. The Mastiff is simply a breed of large dogs believed to have descended from ancient Alaunt. This dog is distinguished by its massive size and head. It has a limited range of colors. Other than that, this breed is preferred for its gentle temperament. The modern San Diego Mastiff puppies were stabilized in the 1880s.
Appearance
The main distinctive feature of the Mastiff puppies San Diego is the massive head. The dog has a broad skull and the head is almost square shaped in appearance. In relation to mass, the Mastiff is the largest dog breed. The greatest weight recorded is 343 pounds. This was taken from a 7 year old English Mastiff back in 1989.
The coats of this dog are short and close lying. It comes in such colors as silver-fawn, dark fawn-brindle, and apricot-fawn. The muzzle, ears and the nose are black. The dog is described to have a black mask because the larger part of its head is black.
Temperament
In general, the Mastiff puppies San Diego is pretty massive. It is also powerful and very muscular. Even in the same litter, the dominancy level varies greatly from one puppy to the other. All in all, this breed is mild and is often referred to as a gentle giant. It rarely barks but has an instinct of defending its family and territory. It is basically a natural guard dog. It will hold an intruder at bay by lying on top or cornering them. It is not aggressive. It will always guard on its own accord unless instructed otherwise by its master.
In addition to its guarding instincts, the San Diego Mastiff puppies are considered as family dogs for their self-confidence, watchfulness and patience. They are great with children. The dog is also intelligent, even tempered, docile and calm. It responds perfectly to firm but gentle training. They are always willing to please. After buying your puppy, it is critical that you socialize him early enough as well as train him sufficiently from an early age. You will also have to be patient when training. This breed needs human leadership.
Health
The breed is prone to hip dysplasia, bloat, CHD, ectropion, vaginal hyperplasia, PRA, elbow dysplasia, ectropion and gastric torsion. To avoid bloating, feed your dog 2 to 3 small meals daily as opposed to a large single meal.
Care
When it comes to care, you must take your Mastiff puppy San Diego for daily walks. This will help him or her release the excess physical and mental energy. The short-haired coat should be brushed using a bristle brush and wiped with a towel for a gleaming finish. This is an average shedding breed.
