MemberIrish Terrier Puppies
Just as the name depicts, the Irish Terrier is a dog breed from Ireland. It is considered to be the oldest of terrier breeds having been around for more than two thousand years. The earliest images of the breed are, however, dated in the 1700s. The breed was first recognized in 1885. This is a very active and compactly sized dog breed which is suited for both rural and city life. Its coat is harsh and red in color. The coat is adapted to protect the breed from all kinds of weather.
Description
The Irish Terrier puppies San Diego are best described as being racy, reddish and rectangular. The breed must appear powerful even without the heavy or study structure. The tail is normally docked after birth. The coat color is golden red, wheaten or red wheaten. Most people mistake the dark red as the only true color of the breed. This is mainly because the wheaten colors have been known to be of poor quality. As the breed ages, grey hair may be seen on the coat.
The outer coat must be straight and have a wiry texture. It should not be silky, soft, wooly, wavy or curly. The coat hair must lie flat against the body. The under coat should be red. It should also be dense. The beard of the Irish Terrier puppy San Diego should not be as profuse as those of the Schnauzer. The eyes are dark brown and have a fiery expression.
Temperament
The San Diego Irish Terrier puppies are energetic, courageous and loyal. They are often referred to as daredevils. They make entertaining companions and are sweet with their families. The dog is recommended for the active family especially where the kids are active. The dog is always ready for an adventure and action. It is also intelligent and trainable. They make it hard to housebreak.
The breed needs a dominant owner because of its protective instinct. When they sense the owner is meek, they will tend to take up the alpha role. They need to be trained early and firmly. They should be made aware of the rules. The breed also needs sufficient socialization. Absent proper socialization, the breed will not get along with other dog breeds. Additionally, the Irish Terrier puppies San Diego should never be left alone with the non-canine pets.
Health
The San Diego Irish Terrier puppy are considered for their health. They are not prone to hereditary disorders. You should, however, lookout for such issues as hip dysplasia, cataracts and hypothyroidism.
Care
On a daily basis, the dog will need long, brisk walks. It should walk beside you and never in front as this will cause it to take up the alpha role. Second, the double coat needs regular brushing and a stiff bristle brush. This should be done to remove the dead hair. Only bathe when absolutely necessary. Hand stripping is also recommended twice annually.
