Irish Setter Puppies
The Irish Setter is a breed of gundog that is widely used today as a family pet. It is one of the most attractive dog breeds to have around. It has a moderately long coat that is reddish in color and silky. In winter weather, the undercoat is normally abundant. It is the feathering of the coat in such places as the chest, legs, ears and body that makes the Irish Setter puppy San Diego a unique dog.
Description
The San Diego Irish Setter puppies are active bird dogs. They have a long and lean head. The skull is usually oval in shape when viewed from front. The top is domed. The body of this breed is a bit longer than tall. The muzzle is deep and has a distinct stop. The teeth make a level bite. The nose color is brown or black and has moderately wide nostrils. The eyes are medium sized and almond in shape. The eyes are medium brown to dark in color. The ears, on the other hand, are low set and triangular in shape. The tail is long, has a thicker base and tapers.
The coat colors range from mahogany to rich chestnut red. There is no black colored coat in the Irish Setter puppies San Diego. The chest, toes, throat and chin may have some white. The young puppie might have silvery gray colors behind the ears as well as legs. This will, however, disappear as time passes.
Temperament
When buying the Irish Setter puppy San Diego, you should expect an energetic, affectionate, high spirited and intelligent dog. This dog has no instinct to guard and will get along well with both kids and pets. Absent adequate exercises, the dog may be high stung and reckless. It may also be hard to manage and become destructive. Daily mental and physical exercises are hence recommended.
Just like most dogs, the San Diego Irish Setter puppies need a park leader else they will take up the alpha role. They do not do well with harsh discipline. The owner has to be calm but firm. The dog has to be trained early enough and exercised. Even as a puppy, do not allow it to jump on people. Due to its high energy levels, this dog breed is still used for all hunting types.
Health
The Irish Setter puppies San Diego are prone to bloat. You should therefore feed them in two or three small meals daily. One big meal will cause problems. Other health concerns include skin allergies, hip and elbow dysplasia, eye problems and hypothyroidism. You should also check for ear inflammation and infections.
Care
The best care for the Irish Setter puppies San Diego is adequate exercising. Long brisk walks or jogs will be good. The coat needs daily combing and brushing. The feathering should be kept free of tangles and burrs. More brushing should be done when shedding.
