In German, the word Schnauzer means small beard. The Giant Schnauzer is named after an actual dog that lived in the 1870s. The earlier breed is believed to be a result of crossing the black poodles with the gray spitzes. This gave birth to a competent rat hunter. The breed gained more popularity in the 1900s. They served as messengers in the 1^st and 2^nd World Wars. The breed was also used in cattle herding, as police dogs, and their popularity increased as pets after the 2^nd World War.

Appearance

The Giant Schnauzer puppies San Diego are large sized dogs that are both compact and powerful. They look more like the Standard Schnauzer. The head is rectangular in shape and strong. The muzzle’s length is equal to the top of the head. They have a slight stop. The nose is large and black in color. Lips are black and don’t overlap. The breed makes a scissors bite. The eyes are dark, deep set and medium in size. The ears are high set and may be cropped or left natural. The tail is high set and often docked. Dewclaws are normally removed.

The San Diego Giant Schnauzer puppy has a double coat. The coat is wiry, dense and hard. The undercoat is usually soft. The hair on the back stands up. The coat colors are solid black or salt & pepper.

Temperament

They require exercises at least twice a day. They require daily long walks, runs or jogs. They also enjoy agility activities, swimming and hiking. Combing must be done to prevent matting of the coat.
