    German Wirehaired Pointer Puppies

The German wirehaired pointer is a griffon dog breed that was developed in the 19th century. It originated in Germany and was initially used as a hunting dog. It was a leading gun dog towards the end of the 20th century. The German wirehaired pointer puppies San Diego are a result of meticulously mixing of the griffon, Deutscher Kurtzhaar, Deutscher Stichelhaar and the Pudelpointer.

    Appearance

In appearance, the German wirehaired pointer puppy San Diego is well muscled and medium sized. The most distinctive feature of this dog breed is its weather resistant wire-like coat. The tail is usually docked, the feet are webbed and it is often confused with the Spinone Italiano. The breed is evaluated at a moderate gait.

The coat is both weather resistant and water repellent. The San Diego German wirehaired pointer puppies have a thick undercoat which offers adequate insulation in the cold seasons. Over summer, the undercoat tends to be thin. The outer coat is straight and harsh. It is wiry and lays flat on the dog’s body. The coat is thicker around the tail and shoulders.  The coat colors include solid silver, black & white ticked or liver & white ticked. In the United States, any black on the breed’s coat calls for disqualification.

    Temperament

The San Diego German wirehaired pointer puppies grow into intelligent, active and very determined dogs. They are eager to learn and are particularly loyal to their family. They need a handler who will be consistent in approach. They enjoy working with their owner and are friendly with familiar people and aloof with strangers. To get the best of your puppy, you need to socialize him early enough.

As part of the family, the German wirehaired pointer puppies San Diego are the happiest. Absent adequate exercises, they become hard to manage and get bored. Other than that, the breed is a great gun dog that is able to hunt in a range of terrains. It has a good sense of smell and can track, point as well as retrieve on both water and land. When adopted as family pets, they have a temperament to live perfectly with kids regardless of their age.

    Health

The breed is generally healthy. However, it is important to note that some lines are prone to ear infections, hip dysplasia, skin cancer and generic eye disease. They may also suffer from heart disease. Regular checkups are recommended.

    Care

When being used as a family pet, most of the care should be centered on exercising. The German wirehaired pointer puppies San Diego is particularly energetic. Daily long walks, runs or jogs will help shed the excess natural energy. Second, you need to brush the coat at least twice a week using a bristle brush. The coat is thinned in spring and fall. The ears should be kept clean. The breed is an average shedder.
