    Chinese Shar-Pei Puppies

The first step in purchasing a pet is identifying its pros and cons. This enables you to determine whether it is manageable for you or not. The Chinese Shar-Pei puppies are identified by their unique hippopotamus head shape and wrinkled skin. This is an ancient breed that is often aloof and standoffish with strangers. It is extremely devoted to its family. Its name, ‘Shar-Pei’, translates to sandy coat. The coat of a real breed should be harsh and off-standing. Any color is accepted. Today, this breed has been identified with tracking, conformation, obedience and agility.

    Description

The San Diego Chinese Shar-Pei puppies are working dogs that were originally used as perimeter guards because of their moderate structure. They still are used in hunting vermin, tracking, and herding among other roles on the farm.

In appearance, the Chinese Shar-Pei puppy San Diego is a compact and alert dog that is medium in size. It has a square profile and the head is well proportioned to its body. Its coat is harsh and loose. The best way of identifying this breed is by looking at its hippopotamus muzzle shape and the loose and wrinkled skin that covers the head, neck and body. The eyes are dark and small and take an almond shape. The eyes are also sunken and radiate a scowling expression. The ears are very small and thick for their size. They also take up a triangular shape and are rounded at the tips. The skull is flat and broad with a moderately defined stop.

The breed comes in two coat varieties: horse-coat and brush-coat. The horse-coat is short, prickly as well as bristly. The brush-coat has long hair. The two varieties are pretty hard but the brush-coat is often considered to be inferior. The Chinese Shar-Pei puppies may also come with a rare coat variety referred to as the bear-coat. This has a double coat and is not recognized by clubs. The colors vary and are often solid or sable. They include red, blue, cream and black.

    Temperament

The Chinese Shar-Pei puppies are regal, alert and intelligent. They are also dignified, scowling and lordly. They are always standoffish in the presence of strangers. They have a sober trait. It has a firm and calm stature when standing. Other than that, this breed bonds fast with the new family and becomes particularly devoted. It does well with children and house pets. They will, however, require training and socialization at an early age.

    Care

In order to prevent irritation on the wrinkled skin, the Chinese Shar-Pei puppy San Diego will require regular inspection and cleaning. Grooming should be done with a soft brush at least once a week. With adequate housing and companionship, these breed can live outdoors. The breed will also require sufficient training which should be firm and consistent. Their intelligence causes them to get bored fast when there is repetition. Outdoor exercises will also be required to help shed excess natural energy.
