Chihuahua Puppies
The Chihuahua is known to be the smallest of dog breeds. It is named after the state of Mexico under the same name. These puppies come in a wide variety of head shapes, colors, coat length and sizes. In spite of the origin of this breed being confusing, archeological and folklore findings trace the origin to be in Mexico.
Description
In the search for the Chihuahua puppies San Diego, the first thing you must consider is the coat. There are two recognized varieties; the smooth and the long coat. The Chihuahua with long hairs require minimal trimming and grooming; unlike other long haired breeds. The short haired breeds also shed more hair than those with long hair.
When it comes to colors, the combinations are virtually unlimited. You can get the puppies as sold colored to splashed or marked. The colors to expect are white, black, fawn, cream, red and chocolate. The dogs with the merle coat pattern (mottled) are not considered as traditional standard breeds. This is after they were found to be more prone to health problems. They are, however, not disqualified in the United States.
Temperament
The environment of the owner can significantly affect the behavior of Chihuahua puppies. For example, the Chihuahua can be provoked to attack if brought in a home where children are under 13 years. Generally, the breed is fiercely loyal to one owner and can at times be over protective. They do not get along with other breeds but Chihuahuas. Other than that, these breed will often burry itself in a pillow, clothes or blankets. You can expect to find them under the bed and in dark corners where they believe is their safe haven.
Health problems
When it comes to birthing and dental care, professional veterinary care ought to be sought. They are prone to neurological genetic problems like seizure and epilepsy disorders. Hydrocephalus is also common among puppies for the first several months. This is a condition in which the head tends to grow larger than usual. Other conditions include a soft spot in the skull (moleras), low blood sugar, collapsed trachea and eye infections. Trembling is not a health issue but a reaction when the dog is stressed.
Average size and weight
As aforementioned, the height of this breed varies significantly. However, it is important to note that the dog can grow up to 15 inches though the standard height is between 6 and 10 inches. American and British standards also state that the breed should not exceed the weight of 6 pounds. Its weight can be within 2 and 4 pounds. There are some pet quality breeds that can exceed the conformity weights to even exceed 10 pounds.
Terms to be aware of
The Chihuahua San Diego breeders often refer to these dogs using terms like Tiny Toy, Pocket Size, Miniature and Teacup. These are terms used to describe the Chihuahua puppies. However, it is important to note that these are not recognized standards. The standard terms are Deer or Apple heads. The deer head has a longer nose and an elongated head whereas the latter has an apple shaped head with a short nose.
Typical use
The Chihuahua puppies San Diego are mostly purchased for companion rather than show dogs.
