The San Diego Brittany puppy is a gun dog. It was primarily bred for bird hunting. In spite of it being termed as a Spaniel, its working traits are similar to those of a setter or a pointer. Today, people are adopting the breed as a family dog.
History
The word Brittany is drawn from a region in northwestern France. The images of these breed can be traced back to the 17th century. However, the first written record dates back to 1850. The record was written by Reverend Davies. It is also during the 1850s that the present day Brittany puppies were bred by mating the English Settlers. The breed was recognized in 1907 in France. In the United States, the first recognition was in 1931. The word spaniel was dropped from the Brittany name in 1982.
Appearance
In general, the San Diego Brittany puppies mature into athletic, energetic, and compact dogs with a solid built. They are not heavy. Their ears are floppy and legs long. They are normally vigor, alert and intelligent. They have an elastic gait which is also free and long. They have been known to be loyal and affectionate.
