    American Eskimo Puppies (Standard)

The American Eskimo standard is a larger dog than the miniature. It has a white or cream colored coat with ears that stand erect. The muzzle and skull is appropriate to its compact body. The jaws are strong and make a scissor/ pincer bite. The most considerable of the American Eskimo standard puppy is one with brown eyes. The blue eyed ones have been known to be prone to a number of health problems and are hence rejected as performers.

    History

The San Diego American Eskimo standard puppy is believed to be a descendant of the German Spitz. The claim is strengthened by the fact that the breed has many similarities especially when it comes to behaviors. The name is believed to have changed during the First World War due to the anti-German sentiments. Its popularity increased in the 1920s. This is because of it being showcased by travelling circuses. In spite of the American Eskimo standard puppies being known today as pets, they were initially used as performers.

    Temperament

The San Diego American Eskimo standard puppy is always eager to please and bright. In general, the breed is full of energy. Because of their active nature, they always require adequate exercising on a daily basis. Failure to do this can lead to the development of undesirable behaviors such as being destructive and noisy. Proper exercising will help prevent furniture chewing, barking or chewed shoes. It is also important to note that the breeds have been known to run amok especially in the cold weather.

In spite of the American Eskimo San Diego being difficult to train, they do well with obedience and agility training. Their intelligence and energy enables them to perform tricks. When engaged in numerable activities, this breed will tend to be happier. All you need to do is maintain a schedule for the exercises.

    Care

The breed has a double coat which also sheds. It is important to comb and brush it at least twice a week. Care should, however, be intensified when shedding. To control the excess energy of the dog, you must take him for jogs or walks. The intensity of the exercise will be determined by the size. The younger American Eskimo standard puppy will need short walks while the bigger one will do with jogging.

    Training

These dogs love to please. It is this reason that makes it considerably easy to train them. However, considering the fact that training is not as easy, proper techniques must be adopted. Organizing for training classes could be helpful. Proper training can help deal with the aggression problems.

    Health

The breed is generally healthy. The minor concerns are in patellar luxation and knee problems. You should also set appointments with your vet for regular checkups.

    Life span

When well taken care of, the American Eskimo San Diego can live for up to 14 years.

    Typical use

Today, the breed is used as a companion. They make great pets since they relate well with people and other pets. Additionally, due to their intelligence and high energy levels, they can be used as show dogs.
