History

The Alaskan Malamute puppies are believed to be descendants of the people of Alaska. In the 1890s, the sled dogs were very valuable to prospectors and settlers in the Gold Rush. Consequently, cross breeding was intensively done. DNA tests have shown that the Alaskan Malamute is among the oldest dog breeds. It also has the least difference in both genetic and phenotype level.

The breed was widely used because of its ability to survive the arctic conditions. History also points that the dog was intensely used in World Wars as a rescue dog and for pulling sleds.

Appearance

The coat comes in a variety of shades ranging from gray and white to sable and white to seal and white to red and white to solid white and various markings and then some. The tail is well furred and carried over the back. The tail is used to keep the nose and face warm when sleeping.

Average size

The Alaskan Malamute puppies can grow up to 25 inches for the male and 23 inches for the female. They can weigh between 34 and 45 kilograms.
