This is a breed commonly mistaken for the Husky. It is larger than most Spitz types of dogs. It was initially bred to withstand the adverse Northern climate and weather. It is beautiful and at the same time hardy.
History
The Alaskan Malamute puppies are believed to be descendants of the people of Alaska. In the 1890s, the sled dogs were very valuable to prospectors and settlers in the Gold Rush. Consequently, cross breeding was intensively done. DNA tests have shown that the Alaskan Malamute is among the oldest dog breeds. It also has the least difference in both genetic and phenotype level.
The breed was widely used because of its ability to survive the arctic conditions. History also points that the dog was intensely used in World Wars as a rescue dog and for pulling sleds.
Appearance
Learning of the appearance of the San Diego Alaskan Malamute puppy is very important when contemplating on buying one. The Alaskan Malamute is mainly characterized by its dense double coat. It has a hardy outer coat which has hairs and soft, wooly and oily layer. The under hairs are about two inches thick.
The ears of the breed are small and always stand erect when alert. The eyes of the Alaskan Malamute San Diego can either be brown or blue or the combination of the two colors. Breeders often prefer the dark eyes though the standard Malamute shouldn’t have blue eyes. The eyes are almond in shape. The muzzle is broad and deep, and tapers somewhat from the skull to its nose. The nose and the gums are usually black.
An Alaskan Malamute is a large and heavy dog which was bred for its stamina and endurance. The coat comes in a variety of shades ranging from gray and white to sable and white to seal and white to red and white to solid white and various markings and then some. The tail is well furred and carried over the back. The tail is used to keep the nose and face warm when sleeping.
Temperament
The San Diego Alaskan Malamute puppy is loyal and independent. The breed is suited to the experienced owner. The dog was bred to be self reliant and hence have a natural intelligence. It is vital for the trainer to understand the background and preferred motivation of the Alaskan Malamute puppies for the most reliable results. They can be taught to live with other pets. The Malamutes are basically aware of their surrounding and love human companion.
Health
The Alaskan Malamute San Diego can live for up to 12 years. It is, however, prone to hip dysplasia and eye problems. Frequent vet examinations are recommended.
Care
The Alaskan Malamute sheds hair. Regular grooming is mandatory. You should also prepare to walk and exercise your dog.
Average size
The Alaskan Malamute puppies can grow up to 25 inches for the male and 23 inches for the female. They can weigh between 34 and 45 kilograms.
Typical use
The Alaskan Malamute San Diego is used as a pet. Some people still use it as a sled dog.
